Social media and the influence it may or may not have on our society depend on our perception of mass media. The importance of social media has expanded which includes the values of disordered eating behaviors and negative body-image among pre-teen and teenage girls. So as this might seem like a correlation, there is enough evidence to suggest there is a connection between the two and that it is more than just chance.
Mass media is always developing and experiencing exponential growth in the combination of ways that influence adolescent girls’ lives. As the advertising of the female ideal declines, these young girls are mainly fixated on their physical appearances and also captivated with posting personal photos through social networking sites. Social Media has greatly altered society’s way of living in different ways. Social media also has a big responsibility when it comes to the development of new public standards.
There is a clear connection between the social media use and body displeasure but can something be done, if so to prevent future problems? Raising media awareness must be the first step toward supporting healthy relationships between females and their bodies and their social media sites.
